Self-billing

Your contractor's invoice, written by you

Anyone you hire as self-employed has to send you an invoice — and half of them do not, or do it late, or for an amount that does not match what was agreed. Self-billing turns that around: you write the document on their behalf and send it to them. With their name, their VAT number and their account number on it, and the statement that the customer issued it.

A self-billing invoice being written, with lines from the calendar and the supplier's VAT treatment

The lines come from wherever the work is already written down: a booking in the calendar with its agreed fee, approved timesheet hours, or hours times the rate from the engagement. Work that has been settled is never offered twice. A run settles everybody over a month in one go.

  • Its own numbering series, separate from your sales invoices
  • VAT per supplier: normal, reverse-charged, or the small businesses scheme
  • Lines from the calendar, the timesheet, or hours times the rate
  • Out by mail, with the PDF attached
  • Keeps track of what is still owed to whom
